Gay & Lesbian RightsThe Communist Alliance affirms its support for equality for all people regardless of sexual preference. Capitalism uses the tactic of targeting and demonising minorities within the community as a way of dividing the working class and distracting them from the true economic and social problems that exist within a society. Groups that have been targeted under such campaigns include religious and ethnic minorities, indigenous peoples, immigrants and refugees, and the disabled. Recently conservative and reactionary pressure groups have played upon long-held social and religious intolerance and targeted gays and lesbians. These groups have influenced Governments in Australia be they ALP or Coalition to strip away the existing rights and recognition gained after decades of struggle and enacting new laws and constitutional amendments enshrining the remaining discriminatory laws. The Communist Alliance calls for full equality under the law and in society for the gay and lesbian community by removal of all discriminatory laws which continue to exist including:
In addition, the Communist Alliance calls for public funding for anti-discrimination and anti-violence programs, and firmer laws regarding the separation of religion and government.
